Scoring

Teams of judges will evaluate both the computer printout and city model. Student competitors will also be judged on their essay and oral presentation. The judging categories are:


Virtual City Benchmark

0-10 points

Virtual City Design

  • City Layout: convenience of shopping and workplace to residential areas; position of transport tubes and magnetic rails; location of power plants and power lines
  • Energy Efficiency: public transportation systems; number & type of power plants
  • Livability: parks; trees; scenery around residential areas; ease of transportation
0-90 points

City Scale Model

  • Creativity: how the model illustrates futuristic concepts, materials used
  • Attractiveness: neatness; quality of workmanship; scale model
  • Moving Component: innovative ideas; practical use
  • Recycled Materials: use of recycled materials in the construction of the model
0-120 points

Research Essay

  • Information and research as it relates to the competition topic with a maximum of 1000 words.

 

0-70 points

Narrative

  • Narrative describes your city with a maximum of 500 words.
 
 
0-20 points

Presentation

  • Knowledge: how well students can explain the city's design focusing on its benefits and aesthetic quality and understanding of city's problems;
  • Cooperation: how well students work together
  • Presentation: how well the students present their information to the judges
0-90 points
